The force of habit The ultimate self – restriction challenge

One or two of you might have done or tried it already – but did you succeed, did you really BREAK THE HABIT?

Im talking about the dopamine rush giving platforms instagram, tiktok, youtube etc.

This week me and my boyfriend are challenging each other – the one that loses has to pay 50€!
And those are the rules – don’t go on either instagram or tiktok for the whole week!

One might say now … easyyy ONE WEEK – I´ll just delete the apps and not download them anymore… but wo wo wo … not so fast.
Another rule states that we can not restrict the apps. Neither via a time restriction nor by deleting them or putting them into a different place than usually.

And thats the hard part!

LET THE GAMES BEGIN

At midnight on Sunday we both turned our phones off and on the next day we woke up early ready to go skiing.

The first thing on my mind was –  don’t you dare forget about the bet and open instagram since it was the last thing that i talked about before going to bed.

I was very optimistic that i would easily do it since i have already once had a whole vacation without a phone because mine broke down on the first day. But easier said than done – the first gondola I took alone sitting there feeling empty I took out my phone and surprise – FORCE OF HABIT – went on to the FORBIDDEN APP.

I cursed and closed it real quick already feeling really bad about myself because I was so sure I could handle it.

Throughout the week moments like that kept on happening but far less than on the first day.

In the end we compared our weekly screen times – I was surprised we both had under 1 minute screen!

Me : 30sec
Philipp: 40 sec

WELL WELL – Philipp had to pay for our legend…wait for it… dary Pizza.
BUT what is the consequence of this experiment other than eating delicious Pizza – NOTHING – We both went back to being addicted to the dopamine rush – but anyway we TRIED.
